Earlier this year I was approached by the book review editor of the Norwegian Archaeological Review to do a review of Empowering Communities through Archaeology and Heritage. The Role of Local Governance in Economic Developments by Peter G. Gould. The review is now out!

The book sets out the admirable task of giving ‘archaeologists and heritage professionals new perspectives to employ as they work to balance their own professional priorities with the expectations and rights of local communities’ (Gould 2018:1). Gould argues that archaeologists and heritage professionals should be encouraged to explore the works of economists, political scientists and governance experts to a greater extent than what is common today and the book can be read as a first step towards achieving this. The review provides an overview of the content of the book and addresses some of its strengths and weaknesses. Read the full review in the Norwegian Archaeological Review.
